🌻 A Note from Mrs. Meyer

We are off and growing!

It has been wonderful seeing our hallways filled with students, hearing classroom conversations, and watching our newest Warriors settle into their school routines. The beginning of a school year brings plenty of excitement, a few challenges, and lots of opportunities for growth.

Thank you to our families for helping your children learn the routines, practice independence, and come to school ready to learn each day. We are excited about the year ahead and all that our students will accomplish!

Remember, small seeds of kindness and good choices grow into something great. 🌱

🌿 Planting Seeds of Leadership

🌱 Leader in Me Habit of the Month: Be Proactive

Being proactive means understanding that we are in charge of our choices, our attitude, and our actions.

At school, students will practice:
  • Making positive choices
  • Taking responsibility for their actions
  • Choosing a positive attitude
  • Solving problems
  • Thinking about what they can control

🏠 Try It at Home!
When something doesn't go as planned, try asking your child:
"What can you control?"
"What is one positive choice you can make?"
Even the smallest moments (cleaning up toys, getting ready for school, or solving a disagreement with a sibling) are opportunities to practice being proactive.

📚 Read Together This Month
The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper
This classic story reminds children that believing in themselves and choosing a positive attitude can help them overcome challenges.
After reading, talk together:
"What is one challenge you faced this week?"
"What was a proactive choice you made?"

🌱 One small choice can plant the seed for a big change!

🌺 Blooming Success

🌟 Perfect Attendance = Class Rewards!

This year, our classes have the chance to earn special rewards for perfect attendance! 🎉 A class earns a perfect attendance day when every student AND the teacher is present for the entire school day, with no late arrivals or early checkouts.

We already have our first class to reach 5 days of perfect attendance! 🎉 Congratulations to Mrs. VanBibber’s Kindergarten class! They have earned an extra recess supervised by Mrs. Meyer! 🛝🌱

Who will be our next class to reach 5 days? Keep showing up, growing together, and working toward that next class reward! Every day counts! 📚❤️

🌻Helping Your Child Grow Independence

One of our goals at Winfield Primary is to help students become increasingly independent, confident, and responsible.

This month, encourage your child to:
🌱 Carry their own backpack
🌱 Open their own lunch containers
🌱 Put away their belongings
🌱 Clean up after themselves
🌱 Try to solve small problems before asking an adult
🌱 Practice getting dressed and managing personal items
🌱 Make simple choices independently
🌱 Take responsibility when something goes wrong

It may be faster to do things for them, but giving children opportunities to practice independence helps them grow.

Let them try. Let them struggle a little. Let them grow.

🌱 Counselor Corner: Growing a Great Year Together!

A new school year is a fresh opportunity to learn, grow, make mistakes, and try new things! As we begin the year, one of our goals in counseling is to help students build the confidence and mindset they need to tackle challenges and feel successful at school.

This month in SPARCL, we will begin talking about Growth Mindset! Students will learn that their brains can grow and get stronger when they practice, make mistakes, try new strategies, and keep going. We will also talk about the difference between saying “I can’t do it” and “I can’t do it yet!”

🏡 How Can You Encourage a Growth Mindset at Home?
Try these simple strategies with your child:
🌱 Praise the process, not just the result.
Instead of “You’re so smart!” try, “I noticed how hard you worked on that!”
🌱 Celebrate mistakes.
Remind your child that mistakes are a normal and important part of learning. Try saying, “What can we learn from this?”
🌱 Use the word “yet.”
When your child says, “I can’t do it,” add, “You can’t do it yet!”
🌱 Encourage perseverance.
When something feels difficult, ask, “What could you try next?” or “Is there another way we could solve this?”
🌱 Model it yourself!
Let your child hear you talk about your own challenges. Try saying, “This is hard, but I’m going to keep practicing.”

💚 A Great Year Starts with a Great Mindset!

As we work together throughout the school year, let’s remind our students that learning takes time, mistakes are okay, and their brains are always growing!
Small steps + positive thinking + perseverance = BIG growth! 🌱
I’m looking forward to growing and learning alongside our students this year!

— Mrs. Holmes, School Counselor

🍎 Lunchroom Reminder

Remember that microwaves are no longer available for student lunches.

Please send lunches that are ready to eat and do not require warming.

This change helps ensure students have enough time to eat during their lunch period while allowing cafeteria staff to focus on supervising students and keeping lunch running smoothly.

Thank you for helping us make lunchtime a positive experience for everyone!
